- subtle, exciting, entertaining, groovy and most of all magically colourful and clangored -
Come on in into this magical soundgarden!
Selam. Meanwhile many people know that the oriental cuisine has more to offer than kebab. It's a similar way with Pop Music from the Orient. “Aisha”, the ballad of the Rai-Superstar Khaled from Algier or “Desert Rose” by his colleague Cheb Mami (in the duett with Sting) opened many ears in Europe. Also the Kiss-song “Simarik” by Tarkan from Turkey.
But more Music from the Orient found its way to the West, beside these hits. Some of the most important names from the Mediterranean region can be found on the Oriental Garden. Artist like Natacha Atlas, Cheb Mami, Toufic Farroukh, Sezen Aksu, Harem or L'ham De Foc create with their intelligent mixture of several soundgardens feelings and moods, which will focus all openminded worldmusic listeners.
The Oriental Music is as same manifold as the Music in the Western World. For example there exists beside the Rai also Arabian Popmusic from Tunisia, Morocco, Egypt , the Libanon, oriental sounding music from the Mediterranean region like Greece, Spain and Easteurope (Gayan Uttejak Orchestra, Antique, Boban Markovic Orchestar, Ghalia Benali & Timnaa, Nil Karaibrahimgil).
In between there exist many musicians, DJ's and Producer from the West, which are looking out for new inspirations and find these inspirations in the Oriental Music. The “Dissidenten” already found Oriental Music for their productions about 20 years ago, on the other hand John Balleton aka “The Rootsman” found this taste of music recently.
Fact is that Oriental Music is mixed today with other Music styles. Rai and Chaabi-Sounds are mixed with elements of Electrosounds, Salsa, Reggae, Funk and Breakbeats e.g. Traditional rhythms from North African countries are mixed with Angloamerican or European Music. The lyrics are in Turkish or Arabic language. This mixture makes it not only more interesting in the Western countries, also in the origin countries it becomes more and more popular. Especially artists who live between two cultures succeed very well in reflecting sounds of two different worlds and combine them int a fascinating way. They are speaking different languages, are world openminded and groovin (Hamid Baroudi, Maniacs & Sharkiat, Aisha Kandishas Jarring Effects).
The Oriental Garden features soundfusions from different countries. Sometimes you get hypnotised be recurring melodies, sometimes you get a wake-up-call be bouncy rhythms. Of course there is enough space to relax in this garden.
As manifold the Oriental kitchen is, as manifold is the Music. A seductive garden with mediterranean flair, especially a place for global orientated Musiclovers and emotional dancers, as the world of the Oriental beats is known for eagerly dancing.
